Thomas Povey is a painter and sculptor based in Devon, England. His oil paintings have strong geometric themes exploring architectural use of colour. He is influenced by the Group of Seven (the Algonquin School) and the Scottish Colourists. His sculptures use natural materials like stone, glass, lime and clay to create works which convey a sense of timelessness and permanence. His pieces look like they have been unearthed from the desert sands; they look like relics from a lost civilization. His unique construction processes involve molten glass, sedimentation, carving, burial, drowning, weathering and unearthing. The resulting forms look eroded by time. They are often made in small (typically 8), numbered editions, but due to the unusual manufacture process each sculpture in the edition has unique character.
