ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Estuary is inspired by the peaceful tranquility of a river estuary in the early morning. The painting has a peaceful, tranquil feeling that will evoke a gentle calmness to any room. Estuary is painted using the classic Prussian blue, turquoise and transparent umbers to develop layers of depth in the painted waterway. I've used torn collage paper to mirror the golden hues of the transparent umber and reflect the golden light of a newly risen sun in the early morning. Dots and highlights of mixed media using oil pastels, chinagraph pencils and graphite add to the layers and interest of the painting. The artist hand is very visible in this painting with the marks and strokes of the paintwork. Painted on 300gsm linen textured fine art paper. Framed in oak with glass

Brisbane, (Australia) born and raised, Narelle Callen is a visual artist and designer who has always loved art, drawing and painting. Raised in an artistic, creative family, Narelle spent much of her childhood and teenage years in northern New South Wales at her family beach house, photographing and capturing details of the beach and surrounds, that holiday feeling, sense of freedom and adventure. She continued this through her design study and still does this, interpreting these details in her art work. After studying Industrial Design at the Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane, Narelle worked for a number of years in both architectural and interior design. She went on to complete a Masters of Project Management with The Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. After 17 years of getting quite absorbed and rather lost in large infrastructure projects, and finding herself more and more distracted with the driving need to create something meaningful and artistic herself, she returned to an artistic, creative career and is currently building her business, The Callen Collective, into a thriving arts business. Her artwork hangs in private collections in Australia and internationally. She is based on the beautiful Mornington Peninsula, south east of Melbourne in Australia.
