About The Artwork

Number 6 of my 'Spacebaby' astronauts series. This intuitive and adventurous painting is inspired by the Nature, the Outer Space, nature and human identity. The space baby astronaut is behind the event horizon or inside of the black hole. In astrophysics, an 'Event Horizon' is a boundary beyond which events cannot affect an observer. (Wolfgang Rindler) The piece is painted on a heavy flax linen canvas fabric.

My work is very imaginative and is formed around a subject, The Space Baby, which symbolizes adventure, youth, and mystery. The aim is to research the secrecy of the human place in the greater cosmos and its impact on us. As ā€˜Iā€™ am at the centre of our Universe, I put the subject, the space baby, in the centre of the composition driving the focus and the whole attention to it. The background is always painted in abstract as we know so little about the universe. Further inspiration comes from visiting places. I love exploring alternative sites, such as post-Utopian places across Europe, visiting abandoned buildings and playgrounds. Creative ideas are often based on my feelings and memories as a child and as an adult. I am communicating through oil paints on canvas on a large scale. This painting medium gives me the feeling of belonging and connection to old masters. I am a two-handed artist, ambidextrous. Having no dominant painting hand or painting with two hands simultaneously directs my creative thinking and the process of painting. The painting process is very slow taking up to a month to finish one piece, absorbing different ideas, mood, and energies as painting progresses. Having the background in architecture inspired me to work on a very large-scale same time not limiting myself to a specific canvas size. My work can be found in the public galleries and private collections in the UK, Europe, Japan, and the United States.
