Four weeks ago I had a phonecall with this rich american woman. She is wellknown – a celebritiy. How should I talk to her? I was very nervous at the phone. I was much more nervous after the phonecall. The order is: Excalibur! And I should tell her name to nobody. Mrs… Im a lawyer – no problem. But. How should I paint a sword? First I said to me calm down shes a human being. Than: What happens in the last few days? Sonja Rykiel died. My fashion god of my youth. The time of the fashion queens is over. Today there are only large corporations. In the past there was Jil Sander, “queen of the less”. Vivien Westwood, “queen of punk”. And my favourite Sonja Rykiel, “queen of the knits”. All that individual heavyweights are gone. This is also the theme of Excalibur I think. Is there a prognosis? Yes – its called – never! What is the royal road? To trust the public perception. But beware: We are not satisfied with the furnishing of our visual spaces, we filter the visual impositions, that hundred of marketing departments offer our eyes daily. So make it simple! How do I paint Excalibur? I paint it on stone. She liked it. I was lucky. Vivienne Westwood „Queen of Punk“. Und eben Sonja Rykiel „Queen of the knits“. Besuden is painting antideterministic art. For the first time at the beginning of the new century (2005) in London the question is raised, whether deterministic attributes of modern painting (new, authentic, antidecorative, scandalous) must be fundamentally reconsidered. In 2009 the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung published a report about the Transition Gallery in London, and their new appreciation of art under the heading: 'we need more dilettantes'. In this case the scandal is not intended to create a better saleability. Art musnt be no longer new, authentic, anti-decorative to be serious art. The anti-deterministic artist is allowed to paint old, anti-authentic, decorative but in a new dogmatical style. With every peace of art, corresponding with the above mentioned characteristics, the artists turns against the dictate of the ruling dogmatics. He is pursuing art policy by intentionally ignoring the quality requirements of the first art market and thus he regains absolute artistic freedom. www.eckhard-besuden.de
