I live in a beautiful part of Thailand, so my art tells vivid and thought-provoking stories of my life, my land, and its people. This is without doubt my most challenging painting yet, I've never really struggled with a painting like I have with “Exodus,” I've worked on it late into the night, early morning, worried over it, changed it, but I couldn't leave it alone and I love it. Exodus reminded me of pictures I’d seen as a child of Thais having to move after wars with Burma, there would be a mass exodus of people fleeing war carrying whatever processions they could carry and elephants carrying the rich people who never walk anywhere, their servants walking along side carrying their own and their employers processions. Bamboo baskets were used for everything including fishing, leaving behind what they couldn't take with them. I wanted to capture the rich beautiful colours they worn, the banyan tree growing out of the mountain side, the steam from the jungle the movement of the people and elephants, the baskets they would have used in those days for carrying their food clothes and whatever else they owned, the long thin ones used for fishing, the poor lady carrying heavy baskets hanging on a bamboo pole, day after day, mile after mile, until they reached safety, people coming out of the mist of the jungle into the light. I sit at a clean canvas, my imagination, oils, brushes, knife and fingers ready to start work, I have an idea, I start to paint, my head is telling my hands what to do, but sometimes my head changes so I delete and start again and so it goes until I’m happy with my work, then sometimes I use a palette knife to cover the whole canvas in random strokes and I see something like a photo an image and follow my feelings. I get a lot of my inspiration from three artist; Claude Monet with his use of colour, his expressiveness, detail and the softness of his beautiful paintings, Vincent van Gogh with his bold use of colour his expressiveness, and I like to think I’m a little impulsive like him, and Lowry unbelievable he produced the work he did just using five colours. My art tells stories, not always happy and joyful, not always bright and full of light, but always full of my feelings, vivid, interesting and thought-provoking. I always try to put something of myself in my paintings; in the form, the colours, the brush stokes, my feelings, my joy, sometimes my darkness but I hope mostly joy and happiness.

Thailand
Ta Byrne is a Thai artist who lives and works on the beautiful island of Koh Samui, just off the south coast of Thailand. Her Oil Paintings . are vibrant, eye-catching and packed with a sense of fun and humour. Ta takes humans as her focal point in her Figurative Painting but abstracts these figures by distorting them and using a cartoonish style to create a more humorous feel. While her work is mostly representational, she incorporates Surrealist elements in many of her paintings, making her one of the most exciting artists working in Thailand today. Ta comes from humble beginnings, living out her childhood on the rural outskirts of Bangkok as a farmer's daughter. During her teen years, she worked sewing shirts in a Bangkok sweatshop, and it was during this time that she met an old street artist who invited her to his studio. This sparked her desire to become an artist, and since then, she has gone on to produce Abstract and Cubist paintings that have received international acclaim from art connoisseurs.
