Expanse/Expand/Impulse/Evolve Painting

I was thinking a lot about evolution, the broader human organism, and how we relate to our other living cousins and ancestors. Evolution of our bodies. Evolution of our symbols. Evolution of our aesthetic systems and visual culture. What exactly is our body? I am hoping the viewer find beauty in the piece but also confusion in the arrangement as I am often experiencing both at the same time. The title refers to the capacity of life to simply inhabit any space it can and how that impulse leads to mutations and those mutations lead to mutations and on and on. The light of sunrise and how it fragments the darkness is a big inspiration for the composition and the subject. Light pushes out everywhere in every direction as much as it can, life behaves in a similar fashion. I use 300 lb. artist grade paper with a slight texture. I use artist grade gouache and all pigments are lightfast.
