About The Artwork

I wound up backed into a corner of the F train on my commute one day, and was struck by the perspective lines which made the train look endless. As the train was so crowded, I was able to shoot a picture of strangers from up close, and it wasn't off-putting to them. Later I painted from observation of a photo but widened the angle.

I am a philosopher with no cred, formerly employed as an anti-money laundering regulator, working for the Imperial Bureaucracy. Currently I'm a painter. If I can make it work, painting is what I will "do" for most of the rest of my life. Painting has always been part of my life. Painting and architecture are my obsessions. It's what I always go back to. For as long as I can remember, my mind has been like a camera. It takes pictures. I can remember where a word is on a page. I can remember colors and feelings. I can't remember names. I don't know if it's genetic. I live in a nameless universe. The internet has been both wonderful and terrible for me. On the one hand, I can google things by attributes, and find artists I love. On the other hand, it feeds the memory loss. As much as I am able to bring to my minds eye countless influencing images, it is naturally more difficult for me to recall the names of artists, especially whose work I have only seen in passing. My main painterly influences are Giacometti, Vuillard, Manet, El Greco, Mondrian, Hopper, Gerhard Richter, Samantha French. I like almost anything in Harpers. I had art piling up and I plan to keep on painting, so here I am! I like art that makes me feel good. There is no particular one style of painting that I prefer. There is so much art that I love. I have a great memory for images but not names. I think my artwork reflects that.
