Melissa Broersma was born into an artistic family whose primary merits were in the realm of Barbershop Quartets. Hailing from a small town North of Bellingham, her ambitions always far surpassed what Lynden could offer. As such, Interior Design studies at the Art Institute of Seattle and The International Academy of Design in Seattle provided her with the tools necessary to take on larger dreams. From volunteering at an art studio in Sri Lanka for a period of time to having murals commissioned for the last 12 years, she has found the most joy from her ability to meld paint and canvas. Currently she is focusing on mixing her two favorite things: art and design. Her focus brings her into the home where she then designs or choses artwork that is both fitting for the environment and the individual whom inhabits it. You can view her artwork at many locations across the Pacific Northwest including Bellingham’s Copper Hog where she sued the local “Bellebrities” as her muse for a series of portraits that adorn the walls of the gastropub. Her work is also prominently displayed at The Tasting Room and at the Quintessential Gourmet in the infamous Pike’s Place Market section of Seattle. Her artwork is showcased as far south as Point Loma University in San Diego, CA. While Melissa changes series often, her style remains consistent and provocative. Most importantly, her aesthetic remains unwavering even during periods of self discovery and trials of new mediums and self expression. The subtle nuances of her design in balance with this eclectic approach to regularly putting herself outside of her comfort zone, dons the observer myriad paths to go down, all with the tell tale signature of Melissa Broersma. Continuing on this journey, she periodically takes on a whole new persona through her art and it is always exciting to see where she will go next.
