Dusan Kirbis - visual artist and Professor for art and color theory at the University of Ljubljana. Dusan Kirbis is visual artist, working primarily in painting but also focusing on photography, sculpture and site-specific art. His works has been included in the National Collection of the Museum of Modern Art in Ljubljana, various national and international art selections, important public and private collections and monographs on contemporary art. Art critics have regularly followed Dusan Kirbis since the start of his artistic career at the end of the seventies and have assigned him a significant place in the context of the period or individual artistic phenomena in contemporary art. His earlier work has been included in a selected review of reductionist painting of the seventies, later in the sublime poetics of the eighties and or among the dark modernists. We are thus dealing with the work of an established artist whose opus has essentially marked contemporary art creativity and is already fixed in its history. His work is also represented in selected shows of Slovene art in exhibitions abroad, in which particular note should be made of his independent breakthrough into well-known galleries and centres in European centres of culture. In addition, it is worth drawing attention to Kirbis' contribution in the field of theoretical knowledge. Kirbis characterises his art, painting, photography and three dimensional installations as an interweaving of formalised mental solutions which are a result of modernism, and mostly individual poetic experience of a landscape, literature and philosophy. The landscape offers him the same satisfaction as structural expression. New sigificances of communication are born on the level of metalanguage: which should be understandable both to experts and to those who are not familiar with details of the history of art. The dialectical theoretical construction of a picture is turned into metaphysics, which means that we can read in his images spiritual projections from the artist's inner world which are outside the boundary of experience, so in the absolute, transcendental and supernatural.
