About The Artwork

Through this artwork, I invite viewers to immerse themselves in the serene beauty of the Farm Pond at Trustom, RI, during the transition from summer to early fall. With a keen focus on the lilies and the mesmerizing reflections of the foliage along the pond's edge, I aim to capture the essence of this tranquil setting and evoke a profound sense of depth and atmosphere. In this painting, the lilies become the focal point, drawing the viewer's attention. their Floating atop the shimmering water, they serve as emissaries of nature's elegance and resilience. The composition deliberately obscures the direct view of the foliage, emphasizing the transformative power of the reflective surface. The shimmering reflections on the pond's surface capture the essence of late summer, offering a glimpse into the changing patterns of light that delicately caress the foliage. Reds, ochers, and crimsons find their way into the palette, signaling the approaching transition to early fall, where nature's hues deepen and the landscape takes on a nostalgic warmth. By employing a meticulous attention to detail and a sensitivity to the interplay of light and shadow, I strive to create a sense of depth within the painting. Each brushstroke is a deliberate exploration of the delicate nuances present in late summer's foliage, capturing the essence of its intricate patterns and textures. Through layering and careful color choices, I seek to recreate the ever-changing dance of light upon the leaves, allowing viewers to feel the ephemeral nature of the season. "Farm Pond: Reflections of Late Summer" is an invitation to reconnect with the tranquility and magic of nature. It serves as a gentle reminder of the beauty that lies just beyond our immediate gaze, encouraging us to seek out the subtle details and reflections that enrich our surroundings. It is a celebration of the transformative power of nature and the quiet moments of contemplation it offers.

Currently, I reside in South Kingstown, RI where I show my work in local galleries. Living in Rhode Island, my art has been influenced by the natural beauty of the area. The places featured in my work are well known to those of us living near the coast. The beaches, inlets, bay, saltwater ponds, and lakes are major features of my work. In particular, the changing atmospheric conditions are part of these studies. Light, though a critical factor in all paintings, is fundamental to landscape painting. Though we rarely see the sun in view, its location shapes all aspects of composition. Even on a cloud-covered day, the location of the sun will have a direct bearing on our perception of natural form. For this reason, changes in the sun that occur by season, time of day, and weather make any location a life study. Though the study of natural settings is the major inspiration for my work, I believe that the artist’s point of view should always be present in a work of art. Painting requires the physical manipulation of a fluid medium. In creating a work of art, the energy preserved in each stroke is a record of the artist’s struggle to present their worldview.
