ABOUT THE ARTWORK
I love bodies. This work was inspired by a Kate Bush song in which one of the lyrics says "split me open"! I used quick mark making with a brush in each hand to capture the visceral feel of that line. I was also thinking of de Kooning and his "Woman" series. I painted on top of one of my ink drawings from life. I love the face on pose and I want the viewer to connect with the flesh and mess that we are all made of.
