Hervé Carriou born in Brittany has been painting for twenty years. He lives in Paris. In his early years, he studied watercolor and the technique of old-fashioned oil painting. He now paints mainly in encaustic for about 10 years and more recently in ink and acrylic on plexiglas. His favorite themes are: the crowd, urban landscapes, street scenes, seascapes, portraits. The encaustic is a technique dating back to ancient Egypt (Fayum portraits from the 1st to the 5th century) and consisting of using the beeswax heated, mixed with pigments. This medium thanks to the amber finish and the transparency of the wax allows fuzzy and fade effects. Inverted glass painting (or painting under glass) is an artistic technique that runs directly on a sheet of glass or plexiglass. The glass or plexiglass supports the painting as would a canvas. Welded to the glass, it is through this support that one contemplates the work. Thus glass or plexiglass serves as both a support and a protective varnish. Note that this is a "cold" painting technique so that the process does not require baking. The work is executed on the back of the support and requires to compose with a "mirror effect" during the execution of the image since what is painted upside down on the right is in the place on the left.
