About The Artwork

Gérald Godin was a Canadian poet. During the events of October 1970, police officers broke into his house in the middle of the night to arrest him and his girlfriend (singer Pauline Julien) and bring them to Parthenais jailhouse. A few years later, he beats Quebec's Prime Minister of the time Robert Bourassa (responsible for his 1970 arrest) in the general elections of November 1976. He'll remain an active politician and poet until he dies of brain cancer in 1994. This painting is inspired by his 1970 mugshot and was created while I was editor for the documentary about his life. The film opens in Quebec theaters in March 2011. http://www.godin-lefilm.com/ The painting was bought by CEGEP Gérald-Godin and is now greeting visitors in the main hall of the Montreal College that bares his name.
