About The Artwork

Painting: Acrylic on canvas Fields of Gold 9 A beautiful, dramatic painting, in vibrant, rich, deep colours, and opulent metallic golds, and possessing wonderful movement. This painting is a completely original work of art, painted on canvas. It arrives complete with hardware, ready to hang on your wall. In the creation of this painting I used a variety of materials, from acrylics and iridescent pigments, to opulent gold metallics. The dramatic textures in this artwork were achieved through an unusual combination of materials, as well as unique painting techniques which I have been perfecting over a lifetime. This painting is the 9th work in a series entitled, “Fields of Gold”, in which I explore the beauty of grass landscapes in various parts of the world, where I have either lived or visited, such as the bamboo forests in Japan, the prairie grasslands in Saskatchewan, and the wheat fields in Tuscany and in the Alentejo region of Portugal. I travel extensively and in the last few years have become very inspired by these grass landscapes. The undulating movement of these beautiful plants as they sway in the breeze, and their shimmering colours as they catch the light, or are backlit by a sunset, imbue them with a beauty that to me, is unparalleled. Sometimes I simply sit and observe them, the images absorbed and stored in my mind for future inspiration, but often I will paint miniature paintings “en plain air” which I bring back to the studio as a reference for the full size artworks. Although this series references natural landscapes, the paintings are interpretive and abstracted, and never depict any specific place. What interests me as an artist is to paint not what I see, but what I feel, and what I hope others will feel when they view my work. I’m interested in the intangible qualities of these landscapes, and I believe the paintings in this series capture their “essence” from the majesty of the vast bamboo forests to the simple beauty of the humble prairie grasses. Note: This painting is signed in the back. It can be framed prior to shipping at the preference of the collector, with the price of the painting and the shipping costs being adjusted accordingly.
