Finding Painting

The basic ideas in my art have always been rooted in my amazement and wonder at the laws of nature that operate in the world around us. Much of my work is based on mathematical principles as a source for form, both artistically and conceptually. Geometric or simplified organic shapes, symbols, and symmetry are the framework used to explore color and the ambiguities of our perception and understanding. The works reflect a recurrent theme in philosophy, theology, art, and mathematics, which is the ongoing struggle to grasp the ideal and the transcendental and encompass the infinite. The patterns grant status to what most consider banal and trite. The natural forms used to create patterns are both personal and archetypal sacred symbols and universal religious symbols layered and mashed together. They remind us that we are so hungry for the extraordinary that we fail to see that we are surrounded by it.
