About The Artwork

“First to Bloom!”, 40”h x30”w x0.75”d oil on canvas and where canvas is stretched over the frame edges, it is painted as extension of the scene. It is suggested that an additional frame for the painting is not a necessity. It is shipped in a box. “I love trees, in all forms, whether flowering, fruit bearing, winter fir trees or tropical palm trees,….all trees. “Trees enhance any landscape in any area. My grandparents had many trees surrounding where they lived outside of St. Louis and it was lovely to pick fruit and relax in their cool shade in summer. It was fun to decorate some at Christmas time too! I began at a very young age to draw trees and, of course, these trees became very fanciful including birds and/or animals and bird houses along with the flowers and fruits on the branches. “It just makes me happy to think how trees are fun for children to climb and their branches are great for swings. For populations they provide varieties of fruits and nuts for nourishment; Later, their branches and trunks provide timber for building shelter, the scraps then for firewood for warmth. Their uses are so many throughout their life.”

I have been painting since I was a child, first attending art classes on Saturday mornings; then studying Drawing and Painting at the University of Michgan followed by Columbia University. From there my paintings have been in Galleries in New York, St. Louis, Chicago, Boston and more. I am happiest when I am painting and totally focused on my work. I love the Sea, thus my paintings of it; I love trees and flowers thus my landscapes; I have currently begun making abstracts which I find fascinating to create. I love radiant colors, and painting textures which I think enhance what I am painting. I stopped painting for ten years after my beloved eleven year old son, Max, died of a Bone Marrow Transplant for Leukemia, and founded MaxCourage.org, an English Laungage Arts Curriculum for Middle School Children which is now a global organization. I began painting again when the owner of the Nakazawa Gallery in Hiroshima said to me, "You must paint again and I will have another exhibit for you." I am so grateful to her for that, as now I run my organization as well as paint, both of which I love doing.
