Fließrichtung / Flow direction Painting

The work "Fließrichtung - Flow direction" is part of the series "Immerse". An exploration of water, of depth, of the surface and what lies beneath. We are interwoven with water, from the beginning. Longing element - source of life and threat - projections - primal element - power and tranquility. A first gestural expressive color layer stands for the elemental immersion in water - enveloped, surrounded by water, in water and without water not Being. The colors form a ground - groundwater. Ornamental structures span over it - they form an intervening net, partly hidden, creating associations with the bizarre life under water, mysterious and only imagined. The water surface is worked in oil, with clearly set brushstrokes, roughly pixelated up close. The illusion is created with the necessary distance. Between the lights of the surface, small abysses open up, the view falls into the depth of the water, into the interior, on the lowest layer of paint, on the "groundwater". All levels are thus interwoven with each other. The view wanders, switches, changes between these levels. It is not always clear what is underneath and above - just as the real view of the water surface has a hard time seeing the reflection and the underwater world at the same time. We mostly focus on one level, see only the reflection or only the fish, plants, stones,... in the water. Superficial and profound, obvious and hidden, visible and invisible, real and imaginary mix in the phenomenon of water.
