About The Artwork

Two of My favourite Artists are Monet and Van Gogh. I love how they capture the landscape in their unique way and style. What I like to do is a bit opposite to them where as I work directly from my imagination but yet be inspired by a particular place native to my country. Some times I may use my own reference photos. I hope that the view will feel relaxed and filled with joy when viewing and In a sense I hope that they would respect and not damage the beautiful garden that God has given us. I chose this medium because I love the texture that it can achieve as well as the very high quality of a finished work of Art. I love the richness of the oil paint and how it mixes together it is a very enjoyable and fun medium to work with. I chose this subject matter because it was inspired by the Caroni Swamp, Trinidad, it is protected wetlands with all types of animals, mostly the Scarlet Ibis bird. To me it is a place you could paint over and over and never tire of it.

Artist R.Gerard Fulchan was born in Trinidad and Tobago in the year 1988. He has always felt a connection and oneness with the Visual Arts. His eyes and mind is always feasting on the diverse richness of this tropical landscape and the bold vibrant tones which contrast and play in harmony. As a child he would sit and draw for hours and doodles could always be found in his school copy books, early indications of his career path. During his secondary school Art training he received a Certificate of Excellence for Outstanding Performance in the Trinidad and Tobago Cancer Society's 2003 Poster Competition. While studying Visual Arts at the University he began developing his philosophy of Art further. "Every brush or pen stroke must have a meaning, for each day of my life is meaningful". Being a member of the Art Society Mr. Fulchan has been showing works from the year of 2013, 2014 where he received the title of first runner up for Best New Emerging Artist, 2015 he took part in the Tobago House of Assembly Shaw Park Complex Inaugural Visual Arts Exhibition where he exhibited one of his cultural pieces entitled Slavers. He has also been taking part in local Art Markets where he was Awarded the Carlisle Chang award (December 2016). He also exhibits at The Art Society of Trinidad and Tobago’s group exhibitions held twice a year. In July of the year 2016 he took part in his first major collaboration exhibition entitled Synergie de Trois, this was his true birthing into the Art arena. He exhibited paintings, pen and ink drawings, and painted carvings on local Teak and Mahogany wood. He has also been interviewed and reviewed by the Catholic news Art colum. His Art works are collected both locally in Trinidad and Tobago and internationally, Jamaica, Barbados, Columbia, Texas, Italy in private collections. “To me Art is about personal or observational experiences. As an Artist I strive to connect to my viewers. I aim to move them emotionally; Contemporary/ Conceptual/ Abstract Art is my language of choice for doing this. Looking at society I try to look past the struggles of life by highlighting the Beauty that resides in us all. We are all loved by a greater power. Searching our heart through the hurt we come to find a deeper sense of purpose, an awakening so to speak.
