Fluid, Discrete Painting

This work was conceived as a vehicle for exploring and contrasting two different and complementary asemic writing styles: one fluid, with flowing and intuitive gestures, and the other with discrete and very deliberately considered glyphs. In keeping with the idea of contrasting the two styles, silver metallic paint was employed for the fluid writing style, while gold metallic paint was employed for the discrete, glyph-based writing style. Furthermore, to lay the two writing styles besides one another to contrast them, and also to signify their complementary nature, the writing was arranged in triangular segments of the layout, with the one triangle being anchored to the lower left corner and the other triangle being anchored to the upper right corner, so as to have the two triangles opposed each other, while in combination completing the rectangular layout. In a sense, the layout resembles and alludes to a yin and yang depiction. Along the diagonal line dividing the two sides of the layout, a stylized "bullet" on each line forms a symbolic separator between the fluid writing style and the discrete writing style, further hinting at the familiar symbolic representation of yin and yang.
