About The Artwork

Inspired by my mentor, Hiroki Mironoue. Hiroki is a mokuhanga artist who's considered one of Hawaii's living treasures. He has been instrumental in my explorations that transcend the traditional style of mokuhanga printing. This series is an exploration of using uncarved blocks to achieve texture and emotional response. One technique used is many layers of extremely diluted water colors and semi ink. This allows the colors to accrue and take on the tints from the previous layers resulting in deep layering and very subtle shifts especially on the edges.
