The title of this piece comes from a brief yet interesting encounter I had with a stranger. I was driving my dog to the local greenway for a walk, and as I was waiting at a red light, a woman pulled up beside me. She noticed my dog in the back seat and she called to me that she used to have a similar looking dog, and how much she loved that dog. She said that she believed there are two things that can get us close to god—dogs and children. Then the light turned green, and we drove on our separate ways. The thing that stayed with me after this exchange was the idea of needing a catalyst to bring you closer to your god. Her god was distant and remote, requiring regular folks to have an innocent liaison before allowing access. I am grateful to that woman for inviting me to consider where my divinity resides. My work is inspired by global events, human relationships, and happenstances that I observe. I am interested in capturing how daily life feels to people who are living in today's world. As we continue to move through a difficult and sometimes absurd moment in time, I feel that it is important to pay attention and notice the things that may easily be lost in the clamor of our everyday experience. I hope that my work will serve as documentation of this time. All of my work is created using high quality paints and mediums. This painting was created on raw canvas and finished with matte varnish so the texture has some tooth. It is hand stretched on custom heavy weight stretcher bars and the image wraps around the bars. It is wired and ready to hang.
