About The Artwork

A romantic, unframed, oil painting, belonging to my series GLIMMER, this is one of my interpretations of the physical light spectrum. Inspired by the California Light & Space movement, this voyage helps me prepare the groundwork for new, positive work whose intent is to convey a new direction of hope, the INFINITE HOPE... away from fatigue. Thus, by using two languages (styles), which is part of my essence, I am trying to develop an infinite mystical order out of expressionistic or atmospheric chaos. This bilingual work is formally expressed by the integration of geometric abstraction with naturalistic light episodes.

Julia San Román is a California artist born and raised in Madrid, Spain. Although she concentrated her formal education on science, choosing to move to the United States to further her career and earning a Ph.D. in Biology, her main interest resided in Art from early on. After receiving extensive art training at the college level, she has dedicated the greater part of her life to the expression of it, enjoying the opportunity to exhibit and be promoted in galleries across the U.S. Julia lives and works in Southern California. She enjoys a double nationality Spanish/American since 2002. Her works are focused on light to express a mystical consciousness and sense of hope, where she integrates naturalistic light episodes in clouds with geometric abstraction, an order out of expressionistic chaos, thus creating a bilingual type of work, to express in a more efficient manner who she is in the realm of where she exists. Finally, in her most recent work, to the light episodes and geometric abstraction she is adding acrylic flowers. It is a voluptuous, luminous celebration of Nature’s beauty inserted in line structures of enlightenment. These works talk about the perpetuity of life, striving for a sensuous fluidity and the nurturing of all living things with water, oxygen and light.
