ABOUT THE ARTWORK
“Fracture #2 Gold” is a combination of acrylic, metallic and oil paint together with various textural and oxidising mediums. A hard-edged band of bold colors divides the canvas into two large sections. The components in the upper area suggest an aerial landscape incorporating several discs. The largest disc was originally gold but the purity of its shape and color has been overlaid with advancing rust and corrosion. The lower area invokes a barren terrestrial landscape with overlapping discs. These discs contain an amalgam of the ecclesiastical and industrial: the tracery of a medieval rose window together with the industrial cogs and wheels of machinery. The oxidized outer contour conveys the destruction and disintegration of the pure and pristine. The rusted elements in the painting have not been fixed and will continue to corrode over time.
