About The Artwork

My creative pseudonym is Evgeniya Bova. I am an artist from Russia. My project is dedicated to women artists of the past who have achieved success. This work is from the series, which show copies of the hands from the self-portraits of female artists. First of all I am interested in the view of the artists themselves and not in the view of their contemporaries, critics and historians. Therefore, my project is based on self-portraits of artists - their reflection of themselves in their work. By exploring the work of these women, their contribution to art, by remembering them, it is as if I am creating a new connection between us. I accept their experience expressed through pictures. I have based my paintings not on canvas or paper but on ancient plates. Some of the plates were handed down to me from my ancestors, some I bought at flea markets. When I look at them I imagine the hands of generations of women washing them. The plate in this project is a symbol of the "female" in art. As with any work associated with arts and crafts, the painting of ceramics is generally regarded with disdain. Women's painting has long been treated with the same disdain, seen solely as decorative, fun, a distraction from "real" women's affairs. By putting an image of the hands of artists who have achieved recognition, success, and a place in the history of art on the surface of a plate, I change their purpose from utilitarian to aesthetic. I transform the everyday object into an art object, the frivolous into the attention-grabbing, the empty into the meaningful. Just as female artists, achieving personal success, turned "feminine" art into art that is recognized and valued. ________________________________________________ Art work took part in exhibitions: 2021 - group exhibition "Visibility", Sevkabel Port, St. Petersburg. 2021 - group exhibition "Invisible Women", Fund for Cultural Projects "Thursday", Moscow. ________________________________________________ Antique plate BWM & amp; Co (Brown, Westhead & amp; Moore) in the Callao pattern. Plate manufactured presumably in 1880s in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England. The plates are not intended to be used as tableware! The plates are decorative panels. A dry soft cloth can be used for care. ________________________________________________ • 100% original oil painting • Oil painting on antique plate • Hanging hardware is included • Will be shipped in cardboard box • Includes Certificate of Authenticity • Year of creation: 2021 ________________________________________________ Rosalba Carriera (12 January 1673 – 15 April 1757) was a Venetian Rococo painter. In her younger years, she specialized in portrait miniatures. It is for this that she was able to build a career in portraiture. Carriera would later become known for her pastel work, a medium appealing to Rococo styles for its soft edges and flattering surfaces. She is remembered as one of the most successful women artists of any era. Born in Venice with two sisters, Carriera's family was from the lower-middle-class in Venice, and as a child, she began her artistic career by making lace-patterns for her mother, who was engaged in that trade. By 1700, Carriera was already creating miniatures and by 1703 she completed her first pastel portraits. In 1704, she was made an Accademico di merito by the Roman Accademia di San Luca, a title reserved for non-Roman painters.[citation needed] By 1721, Carriera left Venice for Paris, as portraits by her were in great demand. While in Paris, Carriera was a guest of the great amateur and art collector, Pierre Crozat. She painted Watteau, all the royalty and nobility from the King and Regent downwards, and was elected a member of the Academy by acclamation. In later life, Carriera made a long journey to the royal court in Vienna, Austria. While there, Holy Emperor Charles VI became her benefactor and was fully committed to supporting her work. The Emperor amassed a large collection of more than 150 of her pastels. In return, the empress worked underneath her and received formal artistic training. The works she executed there were later to form the basis of the large collection in the Alte Meister Gallery in Dresden. From Wikipedia.

My creative pseudonym is Evgeniia Bova. My love for painting and successful studies at art school has determined the creative direction of my life. I found professional fulfillment in the fields of photography and graphic design. However, I fully realized all my knowledge and potential in painting, which I devoted myself to since 2015. I am active professionally, my paintings are in private collections in Russia, USA, UK, Canada, Australia, and France, as well as in the collection of the magazine "Russian Gallery XXI century" and the collection of paintings of the Nonprofit Foundation for the promotion of national culture and art. Since 2019, I participate in group exhibitions in Moscow, St. Petersburg, as well as international online exhibitions. The basis of my practice - is the most subtle transfer of the emotional state in a particular moment. When creating abstract images I use minimalistic color solutions, relying on texture. Sometimes the paintings are almost sculptural, and the complexity of their relief is inversely proportional to the complexity of the color solution. The state is conveyed by the expressiveness of the gesture, not the subject matter. When I work on a painting I use not only brushes and brushstrokes, but also my fingers. That's what allows me to convey nuances of emotions on a tactile level, making each work intimate and sensual.
