About The Artwork

This piece had its beginning in a barn on the island of Öland at the end of a vedic art course. During the course I had finished some very emotional and powerful paintings, explored new methods and been ill so I felt the need for some light and soothing. The first layer of this painting consists therefore of ornamental figures in pastel colours with a dusting of pink glitter. When I got home I rolled up the canvas and let the light and soothing layer do its work on an energetical level. The canvas stood rolled up and untouched in my atelier for weeks until I felt ready for the next layer. The painting then took on a different direction. Darker colours started to hide the pink glitter. In image 2 you can see a stage of the work where I had just scraped a layer of painting off with kittie litter, almost scraping my hands bloody. I also added some granola from the kitchen cupboard and pieces of silk paper. The last layer became almost the opposite of the first one, and even if it is quite dark and sinister I feel whole having painted something that can host all the emotions of a spectrum. In order to be whole we must embrace the dark and shadow. The canvas has a raised texture from the kittie litter and granola. The texture is well-rendered in the image. Pieces of the kittie litter and/or granola could come loose with uncareful handling, but to me as an artist possible pieces falling off are just part of the process, the painting expressing itself. Obviously shipping will still happen in a safely packed box with proper wrapping in order to prevent any pieces falling off :) The painting is ready to hang with a hanging wire on the back. It does not have an outer frame, but the canvas is stretched out onto a wooden frame (stretcher bar).

I am interested in an expansion of the mind and being through art. I build my pieces on layers. I create layers and paint them over. Sometimes I will scratch or tear out parts of the old layers to make them visible again. Layers are like chapters in a persons life. We build our lives, creating, filling the canvas with life and beauty. At certain points in life we need to paint it all over to be able to start a new chapter, no matter how much beauty we’ve attained or created in the present layer. We need to paint it over to be able to grow. In a finished artwork all the layers are there underneath, even the ones you cannot see. It is an organic process. To me art making is more about the process and less about the product. In art I attempt to make something intangible (the process) into something material (the painting). This can feel or seem like a paradox in itself. The process of the art will continue once I am finished with my painting. It continues on the wall where it is hung, sending out inspiration or energy, it continues inside the person who views it, evoking thoughts and feelings. Sometimes the process continues with me destroying, burying or burning the piece or hiding it in a cupboard for years. (These are obviously not the pieces you will view here ;) The point is that when the process is in focus rather than the product, the process will continue long after the last brushstroke. My work comes from the body. I channel energies and they flow out onto the canvas. Using unconventional methods, mixing both acrylic, oil, pastel, ink, spit, pieces of dirt or vegetation, anything in mixed media. The process of the body and the process of nature are key elements in my process.
