About The Artwork

I painted her skin in grey tones, swept up by wild winds. I contrasted the solemnity of Greek statues with her image of Mexican exuberance. Why? Because Frida Kahlo is one of those rare people whose lives have become powerful symbols. She embodies a particular kind of woman: fiercely independent with unparalleled strength of character. How did she become this archetypal woman? By painting her nightmares, her suffering and her character flaws; by vomiting the contents of her heart on the canvas of her imagination; by fully accepting her reality, without complacency. Her art was a mirror of her life, razor sharp in its capacity to reflect the truth. Frida Kahlo taught me that the greatest strength is found in admitting our vulnerabilities. The best way to combat, move beyond and marry our weaknesses is to make them known. It is in the heart of intimacy that we find the universal.
