This cave lies at the foot of Scotland on the shores of the Machars peninsula, and is a spiritual pilgrimage site both of the past and present for Christians, being an alleged resting place of Scotland's first Christian, St. Ninian. Being inside this cave is a calming, reflective experience, something which I hope to capture in this painting. The cave is a natural protective home, a womb in the earth. I choose to live in a quiet corner of the beautiful county of Dumfries and Galloway, at the heart of a much-loved coastal region, to be close to my main inspiration of rugged, undisturbed nature.
