About The Artwork

Painting No. 4 is painted vertically. I started working on this canvas from laying the dark-gray underpainting. This color determined the whole work. My intention was to show boundlessness, a reality that can be associated with the ocean or the sea. Seemingly, the image is closed at the top of the horizon line, but this line does not give any unambiguous answer to what it is. We do not know if there is any land looming behind the horizon. Or maybe the horizon line never ends, like in the novels of Ursula Le Guin, leading us to the land of magic and Earthsea? Work on the painting consisted of a gradual search for lights, from the darkest moment to the brightest one. The lack of a light underpainting, a brighter color showing through, makes the work look a bit dark. This painting, in a sense, also expresses my inner anxiety related to the experiences of this period. Expectation, anxiety, suspension in immobility - these are the elements of my internal landscape that preceded the fact of the departure of a loved one. I have given these emotional elements the most real shape that can be read as abstraction, but also simply as an agitated, restless sea.
