About The Artwork

Unusual for me this was an image that came to me with remarkable clarity, like a photo image in my mind. The precise angle of perspective was seen. I thought I would forget it, but several hours later while I was cleaning brushes the image flashed again in my mind and again it was very precise and clear. I decided to try and get it down and chose watercolor as the most immediate means to capture the image while I remembered it. I was pleased that generally the image was rendered fairly accurately - an entirely frozen river spilling over with a frozen waterfall. A dark canyon looms just under and a snow bank comes in from the left. To have something come to me so clear and precise was quite unusual so I was glad to get it down. Michael A. Wilson

Born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona with three brothers. I contracted polio at age three and spent nine months in an iron lung. Had a miraculous healing and then during recovery spent hours and hours with paper and pencil provided by my mother. Studied under several artists in the Phoenix Valley including on site watercolor workshops, figure drawing and sculpture. In High School won several Gold Key awards and was a cast member for the T.V. series - Indispensables (series on youth in art). University of Arizona Fine Arts department and one semester at the Florence, Italy Academy of Art. After moving to California I built an art studio on our property in San Marcos. Studied on and off with Gifford Nicholaides in California, where we formed the Pastel Society. Married to Christina Wilson, three children and now seven grandchildren. Life is good!
