FUTURE + PAST Female Figure Oil Painting Yoga Portrait Large Canvas Painting

This oil painting is inspired by a yoga meditation called "Transitions" that focused on finding peace in the moment by bringing your attention to your breathing. The mantra of the yoga meditation was " I am not my past, I am not my future." Notice the right hand of the figure is palm down and the left hand is palm up. Through the upward palm she let's go of her future, through the downward palm she lets go of her past. I have just undergone a huge life change, moving from my home on the central coast of California due to a massive landslide. As I move forward towards a fresh start, the ability to find my own peace by being conscious of my thoughts ahas been crucial to my personal experience. The cheery pastel color palette is based on southern California's warm coastal beach towns where I was born and raised. The birds in flight symbolize a letting go of burdens.
