VIEW IN MY ROOM
Painting: Acrylic on Wood.
My practice centres on an exploration of space and structure in the landscape and my process of making.
This painting is based on drawings I made at stations connected with the Great Western Railway. Drawing on site at various railway stations I recorded my initial responses to the subject in drawing books. In this way I develop a visual language that is subsequently translated through paint.
I use a vibrant colour palette, which complements the energy of my mark making. By painting and repainting, I build up layers allowing the paintings to reflect honestly the history of the making
Such influences feed into my paintings encouraging them to teeter enticingly between abstraction and reality.
I invite the viewer to look for the essence of this work, seeking out not only the architectural elements but the excitement of the steam age and a new age of travel.
This painting has been created on a wooden panel and so is ready to hang on two screws.
