Galaxy Painting

"Galassia" is a work inspired by the vastness and mystery of the universe, by the infinity of space and the cosmic phenomena that escape human understanding. The piece stems from a desire to explore and visually translate that sense of wonder and awe one feels when gazing at the night sky—a place where logic seems suspended, and anything seems possible. Nebulae, galaxies, and stars become symbols of an inner and outer journey, evoking the connection between the macrocosm of the universe and the microcosm of our emotions and perceptions. Through this painting, I hope that viewers are struck by a sense of wonder and contemplation. I want the work to transport them to a dimension suspended between the real and the dreamlike, where they can reflect not only on the infinity of space but also on their own relationship with the unknown and the mysterious. I hope the piece evokes a sense of discovery, inviting the viewer to get lost in the details and nuances while simultaneously feeling part of something much larger than what is visible. The choice of technique and materials, such as tempera and the use of a spatula, was essential in expressing this vision. Tempera allows for vibrant color layering, which I used to create an effect of depth and dynamism. The spatula, on the other hand, enabled me to work in a more physical way, creating textures that evoke cosmic matter, as if the universe itself were being shaped on the canvas. The abstract and visionary style perfectly suits the representation of something as ethereal and indefinable as space and galaxies, leaving room for the viewer’s imagination and personal interpretation. Ultimately, I chose this medium and approach because they allow me to evoke the essence of my inspiration: the cosmos, the unknown, and the hidden beauty within the apparent chaos of our universe.
