About The Artwork
This piece is part of an ongoing series of portraits based on photographs I've taken of people I've met while travelling throughout Europe and the Caribbean. This piece involves three layers, all of which can be seen. The first layer is the outline of the figure carved out of the paint. The second layer, a streaked grey wash. The third layer is applied with a palette knife and the tan and white paint highlights the major shapes and shadows that make up the figure. This piece was created alongside another portrait, "I am Transparent" and uses the same techniques.
