"Geology of the soul" Painting

Ivana Urso is a visual artist from San Cataldo, in the province of Caltanissetta, Italy. Her artistic journey has evolved through a continuous exploration of natural materials and mixed media techniques, resulting in a deeply personal and tactile visual language. Over time, she has developed a unique style where matter becomes a tool for introspection and transformation. She is part of the Pentastrattismo art movement, which merges abstraction and spirituality to create artworks that transcend the visible and delve into symbolic, emotional, and inner dimensions. In her creations, Urso combines handmade paper, pigments, sand, metals, and glass into layered, vibrant compositions that evoke silence, sacredness, and inner resonance. Her works have been exhibited in numerous solo and group shows in Italy and abroad, and are included in private collections internationally. Her artistic practice is closely tied to inner growth and the universal experience of transformation. Artist Statement: My artistic research is born from a deep desire to give form to the formless: emotions, subtle energies, inner memories. Through Pentastrattismo, I create artworks that act as perceptual portals, offering a space of authentic connection with the deeper self. Working with natural materials – handmade paper, pigments, sand, metals – is a meditative act for me. Each layer I build, each texture that emerges, tells a story of transformation: my own, the work’s, and that of the viewer. My creations do not seek to represent the visible world, but to evoke inner landscapes, silent spaces, and ancient vibrations. For me, art is the language of the soul.
