Ghost Cow Painting

This was painted during lockdown, as me and my daughter used to run up to this dew pond on the South Downs as often as possible with our dog. This evening, the cow was reflected in the pond, but you couldn't see the actual cow. It is a very beautiful spot, you can see Brighton in the distance. The ghost cow could represent all the cows in the world who've ever lived...it's a kind of spirit cow. It's both lonely and happy, the colours are warm and hopeful, and the pond itself goes off the edge of the canvas like a speech bubble or ectoplasm. I love painting with oils, and this is the style I naturally paint in. I hope that viewers will feel a touch of melancholy and a touch of hope.
