About The Artwork

Ghosts in The Attic is part of my new Series "The Shadow Self". The Ghost is a reference to past forgotten memories, in our subconscious. These forgotten memories may still have an effect on us, without realizing it. There is a drawing of a vase, in this painting. I’m thinking of an Archaeological dig being done in Iran, some of these artifacts date back to 1000BC. The vase was in pieces, probably held water, but now it represents memories of an Ancient culture. "The unconscious mind is still viewed by many psychological scientists as the shadow of a "real" conscious mind, though there now exists substantial evidence that the unconscious is not identifiably less flexible, complex, controlling, deliberative, or action-oriented than is its counterpart. This "conscious-centric" bias is due in part to the operational definition within cognitive psychology that equates unconscious with subliminal. We review the evidence challenging this restricted view of the unconscious. "An Article written in The National Library of Medicine The Unconscious Mind

Anne Hurst has been studying many forms of Art over the decades. With her love of composition, movement and bright colours, her art is recognizable as abstract expressionist. In each painting Anne uses symbolism, and leaves a hidden code, Colours ranging from blue, to yellow, red and greens mingle with each other in an intense swirl. The areas of color relate while retaining their individuality, and communicating an interest story. It is the explosion of instinct, when Anne stands in front of the canvas and pours her emotions, thoughts, but also strength and energy onto the canvas. This is a powerful and intense narrative that slowly transports us into its articulated meanderings, and we the viewers cannot help but be guided on this mysterious journey of which Anne is the creator, unaware of what the destination will be, but you can be assured that the journey will be a powerful emotion, well worth seeing and feeling.
