About The Artwork
This piece was a turning point. As a self-portrait, it represents the moment I was able to recognize the simultaneous flawed nature and beauty within myself. It is meant to convey a sense of pure physical acceptance, and in doing so, it transcends to a higher acceptance of my intangible self. My body is complex - it confuses and mystifies in its androgyny; it relentlessly defies cultural norms of what is beautiful, what is masculine, and what is feminine. It is strange, and in its strangeness it is the most wonderful thing.

My work gets cranky when I try to categorize it. I wander all over the place in terms of subject matter, style and technique, but the figure is the primary focus of my work. As a soon-to-be graduate student studying psychology, the human form has become my favored vessel for expression. I source inspiration with eager eyes, snapping up tidbits of this and that, and drawing from foggy, dream-like memories of early life.
