About The Artwork
After visiting the Royal Academy's Abstract Expressionism exhibition I was inspired to tell more of my own journey. It has given me a focus for the emotions I have stored up over the last thirty years. I have Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and through the artistic process I am able to explore my own journey from childhood through to my diagnosis and to aid with my recovery. This piece is inspired by the dark days, the layers of depression and repressed memories, the flashbacks, the compartmentalising of my emotions, and the tiny, little glimmer of hope I look for in every day. The light reflected by my friends and family. I hope my viewer sees the hope in the yellow, finds the reflected light in the gloss varnish, understands the layering of depression. This piece is a mixed media acrylic painting on canvas. No wall hanging fixtures.
