About The Artwork
The watercolor background is painted on wood, giving the work an unusual texture and tone. The figures, however, are painted in oil paint, giving them a brighter, different quality. This was done intentionally to make them stand out from their surroundings so that they feel a bit dreamy or out of place. The halos on both the boy and dog are meant to be off-putting, to bring a strange religious reverence to this ordinary baseball-playing kid and his dog, or a divine glory to the ordinary creatures of modern secular life.
