About The Artwork

Luonnatar is a creator goddess in Finnish mythology. From a series of works: "Gods and goddesses in yoga". In 2011, I decided to create a whole collection of paintings where Gods and Goddesses from different peoples and cultures would practice yoga. Now this collection of mine has grown and transformed into photo paintings. I chose this particular goddess because I was fascinated by the legend of her! I hope you like the legend too! The nature goddess Ilma had a daughter, Luonnathar, who dwelt in the stars. Feeling lonely, Luonnathar descended from the sky to the sea in which she had sailed for seven hundred years. Suddenly, a fierce wind blew. When the storm subsided, the celestial maiden felt a change in herself and realized that she would have a son, who would be born only when she created a new world for him. Then she met an eagle looking for a place to nest. Finding nothing, she went down to Luonnathar's knee and built a nest there, laid an egg, and hatched them for three days. The nest burned her skin, and Luonnathar turned the nest over. But before sinking into the depths of the sea, the forces of the elements contained in them underwent a miraculous transformation. The eggshells were suddenly huge. Some soared to the farthest limit of the celestial ether and froze in the sky, forming a firmament. Others joined together, and the earth's firmament was formed. The yolk turned into the Sun, the white into the moon, and from the small fragments of the shell stars and clouds were born. For another nine long years, Luonnotar wandered through the sea: she was no longer bored, she was looking at the new world that was born before her eyes. However, the flat, primeval firmament of the earth looked so unattractive and depressing that in the tenth year, Luonnotar decided to decorate the Earth. In this difficult work of the creator, she used her own body: she would stretch out her hand and a mountain ridge would grow; she would push the earth's firmament sideways or with her forehead — and the coast line would change. Draw a finger across a flat plain — and a valley will appear. The islands, with all their rocks and cliffs, she modeled with her hands. And then the virgin dived into the depths of the sea and dug grottos and deep underwater depressions at the bottom. Wherever Luonnotar touched the earth's firmament, springs began to gush out of the ground and rivers appeared. By the time the virgin had finished her labors and left, the sun was shining on the water surface of numerous lakes… And then Luonnotar gave birth to the son she had borne for so many years, and his name was Vainamainen, and he was the hero who was later the first to plow and sow the land that his mother had created.

in childhood, being interested in mythology and biology, I’ve been dreaming of learning how to create bodies for different creatures. Since I was a teenager I was deeply involved in Vedic culture and yoga. For many years I have devoted myself to the knowledge of the true path and purpose of the soul in the universe. Through my paintings, I tell people about the immortal Soul, Peace, goodness and God. I show the place of a person in infinity, the goals of birth and development. Let those who look at my paintings be able to better know the purpose of their birth, their path and themselves. I wish you all the best and light.
