About The Artwork

The painting was accepted into the Gorokhovetsky Historical and Architectural Museum in 2017. It depicts the indigenous "gorokhovetsky toy horse", a toy that a true master carved out of a full block of wood with an axe. Gorokhovetsky toy horse is an eye-catching, adorable thing. This work is part of the series of toy still lifes, a subject I simply love to work with. To create this painting I traveled between museums, studied toys, household items and interiors of a village hut adopted in the Gorokhovets region. I am very glad that my work is presented in such a wonderful museum and that it pleases people to look at. I have even seen some artists make copies of it for self-education. It's nice to hear comments about my painting being a depiction of "sincere children's joy". You can catch a glimpse of my painting in the russian documentary film "Artifacts. A Cultural Detective" at 03:05.

Modern art is very modern. Why, it's in the name after all. But with each passing day I see the color scheme of modern paintings become more distorted, more disturbing. Some simple joy, you see, simple joy and happiness are what I wish to see placed on the walls above my head. Faith in one's life - that's what I try to embed in each of my works. Hope for something better, something brighter, something lighter. A bearer of good spirit, that's what I want to call my art. I have always had great difficulty in classifying my paintings, but maybe I have come up with a new direction in modern art. The direction of happiness. Artworks of Good. No matter how mature and pragmatic we may think we are, there is still a bit of a child remaining deep down inside of each one of us. We still want to look at the world with admiring eyes, for ours souls do not age! Within the walls of our "comfortable" and "well-appointed" houses we are constantly trying to confine a piece of living nature! All these flowers we decorate windows and balconies with, pets we groom and love, images and paintings of landscapes we mount on the walls - all this is the desire of our souls to keep in touch with nature, without which we simply can not lead a harmonius, joyful life amidst the concrete and stone of our cities. We need nature, we need childhood and we need beauty in our lives just as much as we need air, water and food! I'd love to think that works that I paint give voice to those magical moments of happiness, of connecting with the infinite, with the universe. Infinity and delight in all its manifestations. Such things as the sound of the sea - it is borderless, the depth of the sky - it is bottomless, the sound of rain - both sad and tranquil, and happiness. I want to capture contemplation in its highest manifestation.
