About The Artwork

Hampstead Heath In Winter is a view from the neo-classical building of Kenwood House in snowfall capturing part of the beautiful grounds in one of the most popular open spaces in the capital. The park around Kenwood House is very much a designed landscape in an English style. In the 18th Century Humphry Repton created a series of meandering paths around the estate which would show off all its aspects to their best advantage, creating a series of pleasurable 'surprises' as guests strolled about. This landscape and many of the views can still be enjoyed by visitors today.

James Cooper is a London based artist born in 1971. He completed a pre-degree in Fine Art at the Kensington and Chelsea College, and a BA (Hons) in Fine Art painting at Hornsey College of Art. After five years of service he left the armed forces, and was the co-owner of the highly acclaimed Windmill restaurant in Fulham. It was here where he had his first studio, and used the venue as a platform to launch his own paintings, as well as curate group and solo exhibitions for other artists. Over the last twenty years James Cooper’s painting processes have continued to evolve and mature. His sources of inspiration remain both diverse and eclectic. The latest collection of work provides an exciting opportunity to explore this development through images of urban scenes. He uses traditional oil painting techniques in a modern style that allows him to express his distinctive perspective on contemporary life in an exciting and unusual manner. Work is commissioned in addition to being held in institutional, private, and corporate collections both in the UK and worldwide, and has been displayed in numerous exhibitions. Cooper has subsequently lived and painted in New York, Cuba, Ireland, and India in addition to various other countries.
