I am a painter born in 1972 in Maidstone, Kent and gained a strong interest in creative pursuits during my formative years. I went to grammar school in Maidstone before continuing my studies at the Kent Institute of Art & design and finally at Kingston University where I graduated in 1995. I am inspired by the natural world, especially gained during a period living in the mountain ranges of the Alpes and Dolomites and their eerie almost lunar, alien quality. I am also drawn to the changing light caused by seasonality and weather conditions and the effects the light has on the landscape. I am inspired by atmosphere, scale and stark beauty of the landscape and make mental notes on form, colour and tone. In so doing my work has become more intuitive and equally reliant on sub conscious recall for colour selection and form as educational theory. My work varies in size from up to 200cm to smaller pieces of 40cm x 20cm I work primarily in acrylic and spray paint with my focus being the creation of atmospheric landscapes that contain pleasing colour combinations and tonal balance whilst containing both abstract and representational elements. The spray paint enables me to create a more atmospheric effect as I usually use a fine spray rather than blocks of colour. In the future I aim to continue to harmonize the bold colouring of my work with colour and tonal subtlety and the further development of the abstract elements found throughout nature. I also understand that paintings are decorative and intended to hang in existing interiors so I am interested in interior design trends and am able to match my colour palette to fit with a particular theme of an individual space. This proves beneficial when completing commissions. My work is also adaptable enough to encompass real locations should a client require a particular scene personal to them. In addition, I am also a private one to one art tutor where I assist my students to reach their personal artistic goals in terms of academic understanding as well as expression and technique. My work is also available online at www.artfinder.com/richspicer as well as www.touchtalent.com/richspicer
