About The Artwork

This is a plein air painting was done on location near Boulder, Colorado where I spent most of my childhood. Heron Lake is a small pond situated at the open space trailhead for hiking the Flatirons area. As a child I hiked all over the Flatirons and spent many summer days at the Eldorado Springs pool at the foot of the mountains just west here. This where I grew up so this piece has a special connection for me. What I want to convey with this piece is a true sense of what summer is like in Boulder, Colorado. The days are hot and dry, and if we are lucky, there will be an afternoon thunder shower right around 4 o'clock. The subject of this area appealed to me because of my childhood connection with the area, but in addition, I like painting the Flatirons in their many moods. Also, this is one of the few places in the area where you can view them across a body of water. I think this is a particularly picturesque place. I tried to do the scene justice in a realistic style and I think it is successful. If you traveled to this place this is exactly what it will look like at mid-summer. Willows, Wild Plum, Green Ash, Cottonwood, and Colorado Blue Spruce all live in this painting.

My passion to create art was sparked early in life by my father's hidden skill. "I was about 5 years old when I came across a sketchbook in our home. When I looked through it I was amazed at the beauty and feeling the pencil drawings evoked! Portraits and street scenes; and I was even more amazed to find out they were my dad's drawings! I knew that I wanted to do that also." I became fascinated with all kinds of art and I believed art would be my career, so I felt free to try a lot of other things. It has been a difficult process but today I am in alignment with who I really am. I am now a full time, growing, changing, fire-breathing genius artist! I love the creation process; it's always new! I do not paint like any other artist that I have seen--my style is my own and it's evolving. My favorite thing is to paint from my imagination.
