Hiding Cove Painting

Shelby Johnstone's current abstracted landscapes are created from fragments of memories, reduced to their simplest forms. They are pieced together with line, graphic prints, architectural structures,blocks of colour and often explore the theme of the human-landscape relationship. Shelby studied Fine Art at the University of Guelph and Concordia and worked for many years in film. Some of her greatest influences include Diebekorn, Motherwell, Jean-Michel Basquiat, "Invisible Cities" by Italo Calvino and Modernist architecture, as well as the simplicity of Scandinavian, Japanese and Mid-century aesthetics.
