About The Artwork

I live on a farm which has hundreds of indigenous trees as well as conifers and borders on the Chama River in New Mexico. Owls and birds of many species find our property enticing. At night I often hear a pair of owls conversing with one another. I have never seen them but because they intrigue me with their mystery, I decided to begin painting them! It is a lovely feeling knowing we are providing such a wonderful habitat for these fine feathered friends! I have been painting with acrylic on cradled Baltic birch for many years. It is the substrate I prefer because I can easily use a sander and apply pressure. I use acrylic paint because of its properties - quick drying, less toxic and brilliant colors. I enjoy creating backgrounds which are painterly and then coming back with highly detailed Aves. Perhaps the eyes are the most important detail. I enjoy capturing their expressions as owls and birds have a multitude of personalities ...

Originally from Detroit, Lori Faye Bock has lived in Los Silvestres, a small agricultural community just north of Abiquiu, New Mexico since 1990 on a farm along the Chama River with her husband, menagerie of indoor only cats, dogs, sheep & a few ducks, geese & chickens along the way. Her studio is located across the courtyard where she is greeted daily by some of her whiskered companions. After working in clay for 20+ years with a focus on surface decoration creating whimsical endearing companions, Bock began painting on paper & panel continuing to portray her beloved animals. In the last several years her repertoire has expanded and now includes birds and owls in addition to domestic & farm animals. Lori Faye is a self-taught painter though more recently has attended various workshops in Seattle, Santa Fe & Abiquiu, NM. Bock’s work has been represented in fine art galleries in New Mexico, Arizona & Texas since 1997.
