ABOUT THE ARTWORK
View of a classic English cottage-garden style flowerbed, in high Summer, with neo-Gothic Victorian house in the background. I painted it because it's beautiful, stunning but subtle colour, and ephemeral — soon, the flowers will go to seed and summer will fade. Catching the moment, in depth, in paint. It is acrylic on birch-ply panel, with a narrow black edge frame. (I wrote the definitive book on Acylics for Readers Digest/ Search press in 2007, still in print).

Born Cairo, Egypt 19.9.1949. I have painted for my living for over 50 years, through thick and thin. Nowadays I have my studio in West Dorset, previously North Yorkshire. In normal times, I aim to travel for half the year, painting as I go, usually in goache, very portable. All my painting is on a black background, and the image emerges out of the Void, a fairly thrilling process. The subject matter: I only paint what I find beautiful, fascinating, and what makes me happy. These qualities mean the paintings will outlast the whims of fashion.
