About The Artwork
Hollowed Form, critical evaluation by Eliza Yacheva. The painting has a sculptural quality. The crimson tiles on the floor, combined with the black shadow and perfectly arranged geometrical forms of the wall and the overall background, almost create a visual illusion. The yellow part suggests that this might be the light source coming behind the figure and resulting on the shadow of the silhouette being in front of it. There is a socket in the left part of the artwork that might be a hint that the figure is not human and needs electricity in order to function. Is this the reality of the Modern humanoid these days? Do we need technology to fill the empty parts of us? The Italian Surrealist painter Giorgio de Cherico has similar approach to art. His trademark is the metaphysical art with extremely long shadows, illogical or contradictory perspective and tense expectation of the unknown.

Born 1960 It is a fact that truth cannot be found in appearance, the genetically adapted eye with its restrictions reveals only the particular. Truth, for me, is more likely to be gleaned within the subject; in the form of intuition. My paintings are therefore intuitive diagrams which I then compose into paintings. The rock tombs of St Patrick's, in Heysham, Lancashire, provided a template for my simplified outlines, which are used not only within the pictorial structure but also as potent symbols of being and its temporal constraints. For me, painting has to be as 'authentic' and 'real' as the expanding universe we find ourselves in.
