Home of the Lynx, Acrylic on canvas 2022 Painting

This painting is about a healthy and dense forest floor covered in snow so specific endangered species like the Lynx can continue to survive. It may seem to us that during the winter, the forest sleeps and is dead, but the life it preserves in its cozy layers of deep snow is astonishing. I was happy to share this painting in the Exposition Miniature at the Galerie CAVA (Dec-Feb 2023), Alberta, Canada. It will speak to someone, and they will invest in this hope. Technically this painting was also a fun challenge to paint as it contains many shades of white. The white needed to be cool and yet warm, and that was fun to try painting. It was initially a memory sketch I made in the fall, and then after a day of snowshoeing and tracking a lynx for a conservation project, I decided to paint it as a winter scene. I hope it speaks to someone and makes them feel inspired.
