"..But more important than this structure seems to me, in Friedrich's paintings, to be color - and not just because of Turner. Dominate in the lower parts of the picture dark tones: a lot of black, sometimes earthy brown and ocher, occasionally a strong blue, sometimes a particularly noticeable red. Together with the form elements, this results in these colors give a stimulating idea of something that stands out (despite the lack of any real things!) Can be named as something imagined by natural form. Something, that varied to a certain extent changes and moves in its calm.
